Organisational Resilience Risk Chapter
Strengthening the human and organisational capacity to perform through disruption
The Organisational Resilience Chapter seeks to advance the ability of organisations to anticipate, prepare for, respond to, adapt to and learn from disruption, while continuing to deliver their critical objectives. Complementing the systems, controls and processes of risk management, the Chapter focuses on the human and organisational capabilities that make resilience work in practice. Plans and frameworks remain essential, but their effectiveness ultimately depends on how people apply them.
When disruption occurs, outcomes are also determined by how leaders interpret weak signals, make decisions under pressure, escalate concerns, coordinate across organisational boundaries and adapt plans as circumstances change. Resilient organisations are better able to maintain clarity, protect critical outcomes and mobilise their people during uncertainty. They recover more effectively, learn from experience and adapt their leadership, structures and ways of working for future challenges.
The Hidden Cost of Weak Organisational Resilience
When organisational resilience is neglected, a manageable disruption can become a prolonged enterprise crisis. The immediate consequences may include operational interruption, financial loss, delayed decisions, control failures and reduced productivity. These can subsequently develop into regulatory exposure, reputational damage, customer attrition, employee burnout, loss of key talent and declining stakeholder confidence.
Weak resilience can also undermine strategy. Transformations fail to deliver, leadership teams become fragmented, critical initiatives lose momentum and organisations respond too slowly to changing conditions. Even where the immediate incident is contained, the enterprise may suffer lasting damage to its reputation, market position, insurability, access to capital and ability to execute future plans.
Chapter Mandate
This Chapter will bring together risk professionals, directors, executives, organisational leaders, academics and advisers through seminars, workshops, executive roundtables, applied research, case discussions and simulations. It will also collaborate with other RIMAS chapters to examine the leadership and organisational dimensions of different risk events and help enterprises turn risk preparedness into effective action.
This Chapter will focus on:

Leadership and decision-making under uncertainty
