Carbon Accounting Risk Chapter

The Carbon Management Chapter demonstrates an organizational commitment towards disclosing comprehensive accurate and transparent climate emissions data and reports.

The Carbon Management Chapter is the first of its kind to be set up in RIMAS.

The activities of the chapter will be organizing workshops, seminars to promote the concept of Carbon Management, the importance of measuring, managing and calculating relevant data for effective and comprehensive carbon disclosure.

There is an increased focus on environmental and sustainability efforts, with more organizations pledging net-zero. Keywords such as net-zero, climate neutral, green financing, and carbon accounting have been taking over the news, and they are all linked to Carbon Management.

Companies, governmental sectors and financial institutions all look towards Carbon Management as a benchmark to an institution’s sustainability efforts. As companies begin the process of Carbon Management, it is crucial that misreporting errors be avoided to prevent greenwashing allegations and reputational damage.

While some companies have dedicated teams for their carbon management efforts, others have individuals tasked with this alongside responsibilities in investor relations, marketing, etc. Assurance providers are also unable to confirm that a sustainability report is devoid of any accounting or reporting errors. This chapter aims to increase the knowledge of Carbon Management to mitigate the risk of inaccurate reporting risk and create a positive impact on the environment.

There is a bright future for risk management practitioners as the benefits of sound Carbon Management strategies become increasingly recognized throughout the business community.
